What the artist does

Alysha Creighton is an intermedia artist from Vancouver, BC, currently living and working in Edmonton. She holds an MFA in Drawing and Intermedia from the University of Alberta. Her performance-based practice draws on her background in dance and movement, exploring moments of physical, social and psychological tension between people though drawing, photography and video. Recent projects include her solo thesis show the space between us, and Moving On, a site specific video installation for the Boyle Street Community League in collaboration with Allen Ball.

She is also deeply invested in art pedagogy and has been teaching art in various capacities for the last eight years. In 2007 she founded a small art school called Art Smart that ran art programs for elementary and middle school children. She has also taught drawing and art fundamentals classes sessionally at the University of Alberta. She is currently working as the visual artist in residence at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital where she has gained valuable experience working with and adapting programs to patients of all ages and abilities.
